An evil ghost. A mystical warrior. Either way, her heart's in trouble.

Lorelei is searching for the truth. A witch, part Erysi, she needs to discover who the ghost terrorizing the city is, even if it is her grandmother, and stop that spirit before anyone else gets hurt. The treachery she uncovers goes deeper than she ever imagined and leads her to a gorgeous, arrogant, muscled, Erysi warrior who makes her burn with desire.

Quintus needs to get back to his mission after being encased in a spell for years. Helping sexy witch, Lorelei, might help him get that back on track, because her grandmother was probably deeply involved in every part of it. Every time they're together, it's hard to keep his mind on the hunt and off her sweet body. The attraction between them burns out of control.

Lorelei and Quintus' hunt leads them to a plot that could rip apart the lives of innocents. They must work together if they hope to stop the dangerous scheme. Even as she fights at his side, she falls for him. With so much danger around them, she can't risk love or weakness. Maybe after they finish the fight, they can claim the love building between them.

Excerpt – PG 13

Lorelei lifted her hand. A surge rushed through her, the energy rising. It flowed from her palm. Pastel, gold, and silver with streaks of black swirled around the tree.
The construct of the tree flickered once and then disappeared. She lowered her hand.
A blond haired man stood in its place. He swayed and dropped to the ground in a boneless heap. What the fuck?
Lorelei knelt beside the man. He scrambled back. Branches on a bush cracked as he backed onto it. He managed one more awkward crab walk backward before he collapsed to the ground.
His jeans and blue shirt could have come from anytime in the last twenty years, but the gold and silver energy crackling around him like sparks, that was all Erysi. Wide-eyed and dragging in ragged breaths, he gaped at her. Shit, I scared him.
Lorelei raised her hands. “I’m not here to harm you. We found a missive with the news that you’d disappeared. We thought you might be in this area if the one we suspected did it. You’re safe. No one will hurt you.”
“Not scared.” The man scowled at her. “The last things I remember are being hit with a spell from behind and the cackle of that old witch. I’m on guard. The others. You need to find the others.”
“Normal people call that scared.” Lorelei shook her head. Why wasn’t he getting up? “We know who did it. She’s dead, but unfortunately not gone. How many men came with you? We have three pinpointed. We need to know when to stop looking.”
“Six aside from me.” The man levered up, but collapsed onto his back.
So weak. Had he tried to strike out, sending a massive burst of power out right before Mémère caught him?
“You stay there. I’ll come back for you once we find the other four.” Lorelei glanced at the path and then back to him. The others need to be freed, but will he wander off?
Lorelei shook her head. He’s free and hopefully not an idiot. She eased down the path. The pulse of magic eased.
Let’s see if I can actually find one without touching every damn plant near me. I’ll be lucky if I come out of this without a rash all over my body. She closed her eyes and extended her hands over some plants. Tingles ran over her skin and the hair on her arms stood up. There’s one.
She stepped closer and let her magic free. Silver, gold, pastel, and hints of black flowed over the large plant. The illusion disappeared and the black-haired man fell to the ground. Damn, they’re all weak as babes.
“It’s all right. We’re here to help.” She dug her toe into the dirt. Better not to move forward and freak him out like she had that last man.
The man clawed at the dark, moist earth dragging his body about a foot, before he flopped onto his face. She blew out a breath. What the hell happened to them?
The flare of one more active spot pulled her away. Magic poured from her palms and swirled over the outside of the tree. Pale pink and purple with streaks of black drifted through the silver and gold, countering the spell.
The swirling magic flickered and disappeared. A black-haired man slumped to the ground and rolled onto his back. His hand lifted, but slapped back onto the dirt. He stared through half-closed eyes. Exhausted, but the man was gorgeous. He might be weak, but damn, he filled out that white shirt.

Story Background

Thank you for reading my series, Guardians of the Light. This book is the fourth book of the series and revolves around Wild Bill Hickok. I loved telling his story, especially after The Argonauts Fate where he was introduced. His humor was contagious and Sophia, his VV (Vestal Virgin) is as sweet and down to Earth as one can get.

PG EXCERPT:

Two weeks after returning to The Mountain, James saw her again. Sophia Ann Duffy.
Pausing in the corridor, he watched her walking and talking with her sister. They were such opposites. Vivian was a bold woman, not just with her red hair and take-charge attitude, but she had a presence about her that said she wouldn’t take crap from anyone. She’d bonded with one of the oldest, yet still functioning, Guardians, Jason.
When they had found Vivian, she’d been on a story that had quickly led them to hunting down Vivian’s sister on the job. The monsters had targeted Sophia because she was one of the thirteen rarest women alive, a Vestal Virgin, destined to bond with a Guardian.
There was something about the dark haired beauty that called to him. Unfortunately, if he focused on her too long, he ended up with a headache. One the medics were stumped by, since there was absolutely no medical evidence to support it.
The doctors might be clueless, but the other Guardians knew something. At least that was his guess, given the looks he’d been getting from Gaius, Hector, Jason, and Mercury. Even Alexander, who pretty much hated James’ guts, was giving him that same knowing stare. They knew something, and they weren’t telling him, which was seriously pissing him off.
Sighing, he watched as Sophia disappeared around the corner of a corridor intersection, and his headache let up. “What the fuck is going on?” he muttered to himself.
Giving his head a shake, he continued on his way to the base’s main hub. He couldn’t keep thinking about Sophia, no matter how often his mind went to her. She didn’t seem to want to see him, so it really didn’t matter if he wanted to talk to her. She avoided him all too well in a place he knew better than she ever could.
“James, about time,” Mercury said.
Acknowledging their leader, James then nodded to Helen, their tech guru, and took a chair near her. “So, what’s the news?”
“Eric updated me early this morning. He’s found our guy again and is tracking him now. He needs backup out there,” Mercury answered.
“So, you’re shipping me back out to Miami?”
“No, Alexander’s already departed to assist him. Gaius is having fits again, understandable of course, but still, we need to keep an eye on him. He wants to go out there, but we all know how that would end up.”
Yeah, Gaius on a rampage to get the man responsible for Emily, his soul mate, being hurt wouldn’t go well. Godzilla had nothing on Gaius when he got his back up about something and went looking to kill someone.
“So, I’m here why?” James asked. He didn’t get why he’d been summoned, especially since he’d been off training. Mercury didn’t interrupt training for any reason.
“You and I need to talk.” Mercury moved to the door and shot James an expectant look.
Groaning softly, James rolled his eyes and followed the man. They went through the halls to Mercury’s office, where James took the chair he was pointed to. “What do we need to talk about?”
“About you getting your head out of your ass and seeing what’s right in front of you.”
“Huh?”
“It’s been two weeks since you got back, and while I agreed at the time with the others to keep my nose out of it, enough is enough.”
“Again, I’m going to have to go with ‘huh’?”
“You and Sophia. Deal with it, sooner rather than later,” Mercury said.
“There’s nothing to deal with, Merc. She’s a great girl and all, but she wants nothing to do with me. Which, given how my head practically explodes with pain any time I’m near her, it’s probably a good thing she’s avoiding me like she is.”
Mercury shot James a look and scraped a hand through his hair. “I can’t believe you have no clue,” he muttered. “Do you remember what I told you about the medallion when I brought you back?”
“Yeah, don’t let anyone shatter it, as it’s as effective as having my head removed. Which, in my case, is pretty much the same thing.” James was obviously missing a key point, though, because Mercury was giving him a look that called him an idiot nine ways of Sunday.
“There was more to it than that. It wasn’t that long ago, and even with the brain damage you suffered, you should remember it.”
Frowning, James thought back. The medallion would give him life as long as it wasn’t shattered, or he didn’t lose his head. It would help to guide him to stay in the light, but couldn’t override his own needs and wants. If he gave into the darkness that surrounded them then he’d become one of the Evil Ones.
Then, it hit him. It would direct him to the one woman in all the world that was his—his heart, his light, his soul mate. “Shit,” he breathed out. Sophia Duffy was his soul mate.
And he’d pretty much done everything in his power to drive her away because of the headaches. The headaches! He let out a groan and pressed a hand to his eyes. No other Guardian had a medallion in their head. It made sense all of a sudden. He was getting the headaches because the medallion was trying to draw him to her.
“There we go,” Mercury said. “I knew all you’d need was a nudge.”
“Fucking hell, Merc. Why didn’t someone point it out sooner? She hates my guts right now. I did everything I could to push her away, and I succeeded. She won’t get within more than thirty feet of me anymore.”
“Well, then, you have a hell of a lot of work to do. I’d watch out for Vivian, though. She’s a very protective older sister, and Jason’s been teaching her hand-to-hand combat tactics. While you might beat her on the draw, I figure she’ll take you down out of sheer determination and whatever women have that makes them stronger than we men could ever hope to be.”
Mercury got to his feet and came around the desk. “Now, get out of my office and figure out how to win your woman back. Soon, too, or she might just be handed off to another Guardian by whatever power lays within the medallion.”
“Can that happen?” James asked, in sudden horror.
“Hell if I know, but it’s a power beyond anything I understand. It might just decide you’re not worthy of her and give her to someone that will actually treasure her for the gift she is. And that may very well mean you’re out of luck, permanently.”
“Shit,” James whispered. Popping up to his feet, he got out of there quickly. No way in hell am I losing my only hope at staying in the light to another Guardian. The mere thought of Sophia being touched by another man made his stomach turn. She was his.
Stopping, he looked around. Now, he had one major problem and a minor obstacle, getting Sophia to speak to him again so he could apologize and avoiding being gutted by her sister. He’d seen the looks that Vivian had been shooting his way, and now, he understood them.

Excerpt R
“Touch yourself, honey. Play with your clit. Learn your own body, and its responses.” He cupped her breast in his free hand, pinching and rolling her nipple.
Sophia did just that. She slid her hand down her body, over his that was working in and out of her, and rubbed her thumb over her clit.
“That’s it, Soph.” He pulled his fingers from her body, laced them through hers, and pressed a digit from each of their hands back inside her. “Feel how hot, how wet, you are, Sophia. You’re so slick, so ready to accept anything and everything we do together.”
“Yes.” She was, too. “Jesus. Please, James.” She was desperate for more. “I want you inside of me. Love me,” she begged.
“I do love you, with everything I have in me.” He drew their fingers from her body again and grabbed her hips. Lifting her up, he poised her over himself. “Guide me into your pussy, Sophia. Take hold of my cock and help me slip into your sweet, little body.”
Reaching between them, Sophia closed her hand over his thick shaft. “Holy hell,” she moaned. “You’re so hard.” She adjusted herself, her thumb still stroking over her own clit, and sobbed while bracing her other hand on his arm. “You feel so good.”
He let her slide down his cock slowly, one of his hands moving up to cup her breast and pull her back to his chest. “You’re in the position to move, to control what we do, Sophia. Move your legs so you can use them to lift and lower yourself on me.”
She moved experimentally up then down on him and sobbed back a sigh of pure, intense pleasure. “Holy hell,” she moaned again.
“Nice and slow, Soph. Take your time, honey. We have all the time in the world. It’s just you and I, here in this moment, enjoying one another.” He gave her breast a gentle squeeze, flicking her nipple as he caught her free hand. Sliding it down her body, he pressed it to where they were joined.
“That feels so good.” She rocked back and forth on him, shivering in reaction to his touches. “There, that feels good.” She was moving slowly now, taking his advice and simply loving every single part of their union.
“It should always feel good between us, Soph. No matter what we do, no matter how we do it, it should always be fucking amazing when we come together.” James pressed a kiss to her neck, her shoulder, and scraped his teeth lightly over her skin.
“Couldn’t agree more.” She was rocking faster now, her actions just a bit rougher. “James.” She felt that feeling in the pit of her stomach, of the butterflies threatening to burst free and take flight. “What is this?” Her pussy tightened against his cock. “Please.”
“It’s your orgasm, Sophia. Ride it all out. Let it break free. Just let it consume you. I’ll be right here to catch you when you fall. I’ll always be here to catch you, honey.” He was rocking his hips, driving his cock through her folds faster, taking her higher and higher. “Let go and scream for me, honey.”
Sophia moved harder and faster on him. She didn’t stop. She needed this every single bit as much from him as he needed it from her. “There,” she sobbed, and with her head falling back, she screamed his name let her release break free.
His arm held her tight to his body as he rubbed her clit, drawing her climax out. Over and over, he slammed into her body until he finally stilled deep inside of her. His teeth latched onto her shoulder as he growled out her name and heat flooded her sheath in long splashes.
Sophia screamed out his name a second time. She liked the way that heated moisture felt when he tightened like that. “Gods,” she whimpered. “Was that your orgasm?” she asked, as she collapsed against him. “Heavens, that was so very, very good. I think we need to do that a lot.”
“Was what, what?” James sounded confused. And more than a little dazed. “Damn, woman, I think you might have killed me.” He laughed softly, hugging her close to him as he pressed kisses along her throat and jaw.
“The heat that I feel inside of me. Was that your orgasm?” she asked again with a smile and rubbed her cheek to his shoulder. “I like it. If you’ve been killed, then I’m dead too.”

The Argonauts Fate, Guardians of the Light 3 by April Zyon #EroticRomance

24848053For the first time in her life Vivian Duffy is pushing herself to the limits of her abilities. With people dying in her city she seems to be the only one willing to dig for the answers when the evidence isn’t making any sense. But when her sister fits the profile of the killer Viv knows she may need to make some hard choices.

Jason has walked the Earth for more years than he cares to remember. Always with the singular goal of ensuring the safety of all the humans around him. Meeting the woman who was meant to be his was never even a consideration for him, not until Vivian crosses paths with him at the scene of a murder.

The Darkness is growing, spreading, and infecting the world. With the fate of his Vestal Virgin on the line, an Argonaut will do whatever’s needed to keep her safe.

Excerpt:

“I know. There’s not a whole lot to go on. A few really old cases that may or may not be related, and then the two newest ones. I don’t have a clue if this is anything more than a wild goose chase,” Jason replied.

“Damn,” James breathed. “Well, I guess all we can really do is check them out and see if it was human killings, or if it was more. Really wish these assholes would leave us calling cards. Be so much easier in the long run.”

“Yeah, just what we need. The Evil Ones leaving calling cards at their murders. Then, we’d have the Feds on each of the cases, looking for a serial killer that apparently hops from one end of the country to the other and back again. Somehow, I don’t see that as something that would work out well for us.”

“No, I guess not,” James muttered. “So, which one do we want to look at first?”

“Given where we are, we’ll look at the scene that was out north of Jefferson Park Golf Club. It’s the closest,” Jason answered. “After that, we’ll head to the one that happened in the Lower Queen Anne district. I doubt there will be much left after all this time, but you never know.” They could get lucky, though he didn’t hold out much hope for that. It hadn’t done him a lot of good over the years.

Twenty minutes later, they were studying the scene a block north and slightly east of the golf club. As he’d surmised, there wasn’t a lot left beyond some scraggly pieces of police tape and stains on the concrete.

But Jason wasn’t really interested in the scene itself. Instead, it was what was around that counted. Moving to where the body had been found, he turned his back. He wanted to know what the victim, a young woman by the name of Katy, had seen in her last moments.

It wasn’t a horrible area, not by a long shot. A little wear and tear, but nothing that jumped out and screamed worst neighborhood on the planet. There was a bit of graffiti, but again, nothing that stated they were in gang territory, or a place most folks wouldn’t enter in the middle of the afternoon, let alone after dark.

For all intents and purposes, it was an average area, in an average American city, with nothing to make it stand out. Except for one thing. “We need to get Helen to pull the video feed from the night of the murder.”

“Wouldn’t the police have done that already?” James asked him.

“Possibly, likely even,” Jason said. “They’re not us, though, and they may not see what we will. Most humans don’t want to acknowledge the strange and unusual. Their minds automatically cover it up, and they play it off as a trick of the light, a shadow, or something else that allows them to sleep at night.”

“Good point.” His partner nodded. “Well, we might as well head to the next scene. Maybe there will be video around there, as well.”

Jason was hoping so on the drive into Lower Queen Anne. They needed a break on the case, if there really was one. Reaching the corner of West Republican Street and Second Avenue, they found a parking spot.

Climbing out of the SUV, Jason looked around. Apparently, luck was on their side this time. “We have cameras,” he announced.

James nodded. “So I see. I’ll call Helen and get her to do her thing. Be nice to know if we’re just dealing with a regular old killer or a Monster. Not that a regular killer is all that great, but it’s a hell of a lot better than the alternative.”

While James made the call back to The Mountain, Jason headed for the alley between buildings where the murder had occurred. Ten feet in, he stopped. The police tape that remained was in slightly better condition than at the last spot, but not a whole lot better. Turning, he gazed up at the buildings on each side.

A lot of windows, but given what was in each building and the time of night the young man, Vern, had been killed, there wouldn’t have been witnesses. Unfortunately, he didn’t think the video would be all that helpful, either, given where the cameras were located.

Walking back out to the street, he headed for the truck and James. The cowboy was off the phone and lounging back against the bumper, checking out women as they went past.

“Tell me you’re not checking out women on the street?”

“All right, I’ll tell you I’m not checking out women on the street,” James answered with a huge grin. “Even though I am checking them out. They are damn fine.” He nodded to another one, receiving a smile in return.

“Anyone ever mention you are—what is that quaint saying? Ah yes…you are a dog,” Jason said.

“Woof.” James grinned at him. “We done here?”

“Yes, there’s nothing to see. We’ll need to hope we get some video. Did you contact Helen?”

“She’ll be pulling it as soon as she can. She said she had to find it first, but will call as soon as she has something for us.”

“Good,” Jason said. “We might as well go to our hotel. I doubt we’ll get anything from her today, and quite honestly, I’m starving. They didn’t even have those little pouches of peanuts on the flight.”

“That’s because everyone’s all paranoid by the rise in allergies. They ditched the peanuts off flights, banned peanut butter from schools, and are coddling everyone. Too many people have turned into pansies. It’s deplorable,” James muttered with a sneer.

Jason wasn’t about to argue with him. Climbing into the truck, he put it in gear and got them moving toward their hotel. Food, a shower, and then sleep. In that order.
Adult Excerpt:

“Damn, you’re so hot,” he groaned out. His mouth slid over her neck, followed by a light bite of his teeth. “And tight. So damn tight. You’re going to fit me like a glove. Perfect in every way.” He withdrew his fingers before adding another and pressing back in, stretching her more.
She writhed under him, her head thrashing from side to side. “I was made for you.” She lifted her leg and felt him slip deeper. “Oh, God.” She bit her lower lip and urged him on, “Please.”
“I find I have no patience right now. I need to be inside of you. Later, we’ll go slower, I swear it to you,” he said in a tight, strained voice. He pulled his hand from her body and gripped her leg, positioning it high over his hip. Then, Jason shifted his weight until she could feel his cock pressing to her opening before pushing in slowly.
“Fine with me,” Vivian whispered, holding him tightly. “Just don’t stop. No matter what, please, don’t stop.” Her body accepted his. She felt the way that he filled her, and she bit her lower lip, arching up and against him as she did so.
“Gods, no, I’m never going to stop,” he said softly. His fingers were squeezing her thigh gently, massaging the muscle. He pressed in deeper, pulled out a little, and then pushed in more. “Just like a fucking hot, wet, amazing glove,” he groaned.
“God, yes” was all that she could say. “Perfect.” She squeezed him tighter, tugged him closer, and sobbed his name aloud when he filled her completely. She felt odd, like nothing she had ever experienced before. It was almost as if there were ties binding them as their bodies joined for the first time. “Again,” she begged when he pulled out and slid into her hard and fast.
Shifting his weight, Jason caught her hands and pressed them up over her head, lacing their fingers together. With a firm hold on her, he began to thrust, slowly at first, but his hips began to move faster with each push. He was staring into her eyes as he took her, never letting her look away from his penetrating gaze, not that she even thought about it.
Vivian was captivated by this man. Every plunge of his body into hers had her moaning. Every move of his hard body against her softer one had her sobbing out in need. This was how making love should feel, and she knew it. She relished every touch, every bracing moment, for what it was. It was coming home. Her soul recognized his, her heart melted and was reformed with bits of him deeply imbedded inside of it. She never allowed her gaze to waver, just bit her lip and squeezed his large hands as they moved in perfect rhythm with each other.
He thrust harder, deeper, rattling the bed they were on as he clutched her fingers, then released them a little as he withdrew. “You are mine,” he whispered. “For all time, mine.” Not letting her gaze go, he leaned his head closer to bite her lip and tug.
She couldn’t agree more. “For all time. I am yours,” Vivian gasped out. She moaned again. Her legs tightened around his hips and squeezed. “And you are mine, Jason. For—” Another groan broke her speech. “For all time,” she panted. She felt something intense waiting in the shadows for them, felt the bonds binding them together, and it only made her want more. “Please,” she begged. She didn’t know what they needed, but saw in his eyes that he did.
“Not yet,” he breathed out, a smile curling his lips. “You will only come when I tell you you can. Until then, I want you to focus on the sensations.” Letting go of one of her hands, he pressed his free one to the bed, levering up a little.
“Oh, hell” was all that Vivian could say as he changed the angle of his penetration and demanded she wait for his command. She didn’t know why, but that turned her on even more. Just the way that he had ordered she wait had her whole being struggling to do just as he pleased. She focused on him, focused on the feel of him entering and leaving her body, and ignored everything else. Only he was important in that moment. Nothing and no one else.
“Touch your clit, stroke it, but do not come,” he commanded. His voice was deeper, harsher, his gaze sharper, it seemed. “Push yourself to the edge and hold there. Gods, you are gorgeous,” he growled out. He squeezed her hand as he rolled his hips, pushing in deeper.
She moved her free hand down their bodies to her clit. She arched back. “Jason, God.” She panted and bucked against him. She wanted to stroke his cock, wanted to put her fingers on each side of the thick shaft and squeeze so he could feel just how good this was for her, but she didn’t. He had told her what to do, and God help her, she was powerless to do any less.
“Good girl.” He gave a feral grin. “Slide your fingers down, rub at your folds, but don’t touch my cock.” He thrust in again and pulled out slowly, in hard, out slow, over and over again. His gaze flicked away then back up to meet her eyes again.
Vivian was panting as she did as instructed, the heel of her hand pushing against her clit while her fingers slid over the folds of her pussy. She could feel him as he filled her full and beyond and needed more. She didn’t stop watching him, her eyes on his, her need growing with each glance that he gave her. Each heated look. Everything was more than she could have ever experienced.
He let her other hand go, pressing it to the bedding as he sped up. He thrust in and out fast, as he growled. There was sweat dripping down his temples, along his throat, and over his chest. “Pinch your clit, hard, and come for me. Come now!”
